To quench our thirst after a long drive, we had a stopover in Portland, Oregon, which is also known as Beervana, because it is home to more than 70 breweries. We have tried some very fun flavors; passion fruit sour, blueberry wheat and cucumber crush. There was also great selection of stout beer, which is my all-time favorite beer.
Portland is a compact city, everything is in walking distance in the city center, one day is more than enough to see all the main sights. I really liked to walk around in downtown, there were many cute streets and the city had a good vibe. The only negative was the homeless people on the streets, we saw just as many of them, as we did in San Francisco. One of them had though a good sense of humor; he asked us, if we can donate some money to his research on LSD and mushrooms. We were of course not interested in promoting his project, but were very impressed of his honesty and rewarded it with an LOL.
Portlanders are also big fans of street food; they have many different food carts in town, where one can find everything from the English fish and chips to the Ethiopian injera.
We have also found a funky doughnut shop, Voodoo Doughnut, where there were some unusual doughnut creations with M&Ms and marshmallows. Despite the temptation, we decided to keep it simple; we tasted a chocolate doughnut with cream filling.
Another great place in town is Powell's City of Books, a huge book store that occupies a full city block and has an inventory of over 1 million books.
All in all, Portland is a nice city and we had a great time there.
