The San Juan Islands is a picturesque archipelago in the northwest corner of Washington state. The islands are famous for their resident pods of orca whales, and they were also the reason for our visit. We stayed at Anacortes the night before, so we could take an early ferry to Friday Harbor, which is the main hub of the San Juan Islands.
From Friday Harbor we booked a whale watching tour, where we have seen orca whales, dolphins, seals and many different seabirds. So we were very lucky.
This is a video of the orca pod, we have seen:
I think Friday Harbor in itself worth a visit; it is a very cute town with cozy streets and a nice harbor.
Our favorite spot in Friday Harbor was this viewpoint.
I wish we had more time on San Juan Islands, I could easily have used a couple of days on island-hopping, hiking and wildlife watching. Well, maybe next time. :)
